Dr. Russell Phillips Story
Our practice’s founder, Dr. Russell Phillips, began his dentistry journey in Scranton, Pennsylvania. His passion was sparked by a high school sports injury that required him to seek dental treatment. This experience planted the seed for a successful career in oral care.
Dr. Phillips pursued his undergraduate studies at Penn State University, where he was an active varsity soccer team member. His dedication to sports was matched only by his commitment to academic excellence. After his undergraduate studies, he attended the University of Pennsylvania School of Dental Medicine, receiving his DMD degree with honors.
Expertise
After dental school, Dr. Phillips spent two years in the Navy Dental Corps at Submarine Base New London, gaining extensive experience in oral surgery. He then completed a three-year specialty program at the University of Pennsylvania, focusing on periodontics and prosthodontics. This training included periodontal surgical procedures and advanced crown and bridge techniques. Dr. Phillips later established his practice in Washington, DC, while staying connected to academia. He taught as an Assistant Clinical Professor at The University of Pennsylvania School of Dental Medicine and the Hospital of the University of Pennsylvania Dental Residency Program for 13 years. Additionally, he has published articles in esteemed journals, contributing to dental health advancements.
Ronald Cooper, D.D.S., F.A.G.D.
Dr. Ronald Cooper began his interest in dentistry in high school as part of an externship program that involved visiting with and learning from a local dentist. After that experience, he began volunteering and assisting dentists through college. Dentistry was a career path that seemed to match his natural inclination for fixing things. And today, when he’s not fixing smiles, he’s often fixing up his home in Potomac. Dr. Cooper grew up in Long Island and finished high school in Maryland. After two years at Franklin and Marshall College in Pennsylvania, he transferred to the University of Maryland where he received his undergraduate degree in biochemistry. He went on to acquire his DDS, with honors, from the University of Maryland Dental School in 1988. From there Dr. Cooper continued his dental education with advanced training in post-graduate general dentistry at Emory University in Atlanta, Georgia. While there, he served the community by volunteering time to those in need at Grady Hospital. Dr. Cooper’s dental education continued with the acceptance of the Fellowship Award in General Dentistry in 1997. He then became more focused on preserving teeth while at the same time improving smiles. Dr. Cooper is a member of several national and local professional associations including the Academy of General Dentistry, the American Dental Association, and the DC Dental Society. Along with home renovations and home automation, Dr. Cooper enjoys woodworking and spending time with his family. He and his wife Lesley, an attorney, have three children.
